How Shlomo Assa and Acclaro Medical Are Building a New Category in Aesthetic Medicine

A recent feature published by TIME profiles Acclaro Medical co-founder and president Shlomo Assa and his effort to rethink energy-based skin treatment. In a market that Grand View Research valued at $7.5 billion in 2025 and expects to more than double by 2033, most innovation has meant refining the heat-based resurfacing designs that have dominated since the mid-1990s. Assa took a different route: inventing a new treatment category rather than improving an existing product.
His background is in engineering, with degrees from the Technion and Tel Aviv University, and his method starts with questioning assumptions others have stopped examining. The assumption he challenged was that heat, along with the pain, downtime, and pigmentation risk it brings, is simply the cost of effective treatment. Borrowing fiber laser technology from precision manufacturing and pairing it with a wavelength absorbed by water in the skin, Acclaro developed an approach it calls cold ablation, which removes tissue while limiting residual heat. That design allows the UltraClear platform, which earned FDA clearance and launched in the U.S. in 2022, to serve a broad range of skin types, including deeper Fitzpatrick classifications.
The clinical record continues to grow, much of it appearing in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, with early studies reporting strong satisfaction scores and no infections, scarring, or hypopigmentation. Industry recognition has followed as well, including a spot on NewBeauty’s 2026 in-office treatment awards.
Acclaro has also invested in the surrounding ecosystem, from physician education programs and conference sessions to European expansion and a second platform, AuraLux, aimed at prevention-focused patients. You can read the full TIME article here.
